Two commissioned works, one double bill. In 2023, Lenio Kaklea was asked for a performance on the social act of coming out. But “having never performed a coming out” herself, she was rather perplexed. And she dedicated herself to all the queer artists dear to her: Ulrike Ottinger, Jill Johnston, Jean Genet and the neo-realist painter and scenographer Yannis Tsarouchis. She, not least, learned what it means to love the female body. In 2024, her film An Alphabet for The Camera was awarded the Foundation Pernod Ricard Prize: a dance study of the the situated position of the embodied gaze.
