Two dances that tell stories about movement, about their nature and their culture. Two years ago, they won the TAO Dance Theater from Beijing the Silver Lion of the Venice Biennale. Founded in 2008, the group has been touring the most important dance institutions in the West. Its directors, choreographer Tao Ye and dancer Duan Ni, are consistently economical about the titles of their pieces: simple numbers suffice for the 16-part series, which 13 and 14 are taken from. Because the works speak for themselves: it’s all in the dance and the bodies as well as the music and the specially created costumes. Emotions and the uniqueness of the individuals establishing relationships with each other determine the flow of 13. Here, the figures are dressed in shades between white and grey-blue. 14, on the other hand, is dominated by colours: the focus of the second piece of the evening is on rhythm, covering the whole range of variants between standstill and movement.
