PROGRAMME
Marie Chouinard has said that her greatest passion is “putting something out into the world” and “exploring the unknown” in the process. At this year’s ImPulsTanz festival, the multi-award-winning Canadian choreographer and the twelve members of her company present a two-part evening in Volkstheater. Both pieces feature the music of Johann Sebastian Bach: the Goldberg Variations form the soundtrack for BodyremixRemix, a reformulation of an earlier successful production, while Bach’s eponymous hymns of praise in honour of St. Mary are the basis for Magnificat. In both cases, the perfection of the dance technique corresponds to the musical genius of the baroque composer, while the dance itself, the dramaturgy and the stage design are representative of our present. To express the central theme of beauty and a deeper understanding of its meaning, the extraordinary dancers in BodyremixRemix use crutches and prostheses in an almost provocatively matter-of-fact way. Graceful beauty is also the dominant feature of Magnificat, combining the brilliance of the arias and the choreography.
