At this year’s festival, the ImPulsTanz – Young Choreographers’ 2022 Award winning piece Repertorio N2 can be seen once again, as well as its sequel, Repertório N3, which premiered at the 35th Bienal de São Paulo at the Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion. The Brazilian performers deepen their interrogation of the violence inflicted on Black people on a daily basis, and develop new strategies of choreographic resistance. Her dance develops tactics of self-defence to counter physical, imaginary and epistemological violence. In Repertório N3, gestures and poses of sexual and queer seduction infiltrate the dance (also) as an act of resistance against the judgemental gaze. If the Black body is suspicious at rest and a threat in motion, Pontes and Ferreira find strategies and images in the choreographic act that reshape the perception of the self and what is to come in order to end the current organisation of the world.
