Jumelles

At first glance, it seems as if the two figures were inviting you to a historical costume ball: Frédéric Gies enters in rich yellow, Anne Juren in dreamy pale blue. However, the two passionate dancers, choreographers and researchers celebrate their friendship of 20 years in a very contemporary way, as Jumelles, i.e. “female twins”. They present themselves binocularly, so that you can look at them as though through “a pair of field glasses” (the second meaning of the French title). Both emigrated from France: Gies to Malmö and Juren to Vienna. For their technosound-fuelled piece, they have joined forces following independent successes and numerous collaborations. The result is a mutual dancing portrait without any qualms regarding overexertion or showing weakness.
