A dance governed by impulses, stimuli and meandering states of mind. A piece that savours the mood between sleep and wakefulness and the inner stirrings in the state of drowsiness, when the unconscious takes the body out to dance. SOMNOLE is the first proper solo work that Boris Charmatz has created for himself in the 30 years of his artistic activity. He started his international career at the age of 19 and was the first to run a Musée de la danse as an artistic project. One of the most important French choreographers, Charmatz has been the director of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch since last autumn. In Somnole, the audience gets to see a new side of him: his strong presence as a dancer, his originality and his desire to explore uncharted territories.
