Five dancers, five directions in space. Setting off and tilting away. Tipping, dropping – all that is possible even when the figures are lying on the floor. An Kaler, the young, highly talented choreographer based in Berlin and Vienna, presents the new group piece, “Contingencies. La Parole Errante”, now for the first time in the complete line-up. With an elaborate lighting design and a precisely calculated spatial pattern, Kaler transforms the Kasino am Schwarzenbergplatz into a playroom of coincidences that come about in the smallest of movements but also in expansive motions and in the constellations that the dancers form with each another. Charged by their contact with the floor, their bodies form continuous sequences of fragments and “texts of movement” that are layered on top of each other. The performers – including An Kaler, who is well-known for an extraordinary presence – turn the space into a powerhouse of erratic passions with their “Contingencies”. This is contemporary choreography at its best.
