Flowers (we are)

If an artist could be awarded the title “virtuoso of contradictory subtlety in dance”, Claire Croizé would surely be a front runner. This was already evident in her graduation piece from Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s P.A.R.T.S. school back in 2000. It was called Schenke mir etwas, das nicht stirbt. (“Give me something that doesn’t die”). Later, in Affected and The Farewell (which was awarded in 2009 with the Prix Jardin d'Europe for Young Choreography), she worked with the magical sounds of Gustav Mahler, and when she presented EVOL three years ago, David Bowie provided the musical basis. In her new piece, the Brussels-based French choreographer takes the risk to look back at Johann Sebastian Bach. To this end, she teamed up with Italian-British musician Matteo Fargion, who gained fame in the contemporary dance scene owing to his perfect, clever and humorous duets with Jonathan Burrows. For Flowers (we are) he brings his daughter Francesca along. Croizé’s trio of dancers translates their playful live music into movement compositions celebrating different generations, personalities and types of relationship.
