Silk Road

If this borderland of dance between India and Spain calls masterpieces by Akram Khan to mind, this is not a coincidence. Because Andalusian artist Jose Agudo was assistant choreographer and rehearsal director of the Akram Khan Dance Company for many years, where he worked on such wonderful pieces as Desh, iTMOi and Torobaka. In 2011, he began to study Kathak, a North Indian dance, under Khan’s guidance. In the process, Agudo, who had begun his career as a flamenco dancer, discovered surprising parallels between these two forms of dance and started bringing their traditions into contemporary contexts. A result of his explorations is Silk Road, featuring virtuoso solo and duet pieces (together with Kenny Wing Tao Ho), to an exquisite instrumental and vocal accompaniment live on stage by a. o. Giuliano Modarelli and the renowned Austrian musician Bernhard Schimpelsberger: an extraordinarily beautiful, poetic dancing journey between China and the Iberian peninsula.
