Mascura Fogo

“Aida!”, a man shouts, completely beside himself. “Where are you? Come to me!” And, with a slight accent, a lady announces with relish: “In the evening I walked along the boulevard, and the men hid behind the trees. And, as I walked by, they said, ‘Ohhh’.” A dancer washes dishes in a bubble bath, a diva presents herself in a balloon dress. Against the background of a solidified lava flow. Finally back in touch with Pina Bausch! Ten years after the ingenious artist’s death, Tanztheater Wuppertal presents Masurca Fogo at ImPulsTanz, created by Bausch in Lisbon in 1998. Sometime later, a dance passage from this humorous miracle of dance, text, video and dramaturgical verve found its way into Pedro Almodovar’s famous movie Talk to Her. Southern flair and pure joie de vivre are coupled with wonderful music in this masterpiece by one of the most distinguished choreographers of the 20th and 21st centuries – including melting music, loneliness and hope, bubbling emotions, delightful characters and videos projected onto the entire stage. The roar of the sea, passionate glances and a nocturnal dance contest: ohhh, that’s Pina!
