iChoreography – Conversations
In the theatre the body is being prepared for what is to be done outside in the public space. That is the premise under which a group of people from different generations walks to Heldenplatz to examine the sound installation The Voices by Scottish Turner Prize winner Susan Philipsz. Its delicate, flowing sounds refer to the martial spectacle of Adolf Hitler’s speech delivered there in 1938. As a counterweight to the violence of historical events Chowaniec and Oberleithner bring a choreographic score to this charged place.
Duration: 45 min
In cooperation with Haus der Geschichte Österreich
A temporary sound installation by Susan Philipsz on Vienna’s Heldenplatz to mark the Commemorative Year 2018.
A project by the House of Austrian History.
The artist Susan Philipsz creates a sound space between the Neue Burg and the temporary pavilions of the parliament. The work refers to the Heldenplatz as a central location of Austrian memory, commemorating the victims of Nazi terror and acting as a re minder of the individual responsibility for a democratic present and future.
