LACE Movement Dance Class
Emoting with Zander Porter

Monday, 14.7., 9:30-11:00
Arsenal – Studio F

Free entry

Come and join the series of free, open-level classes offered by the LACE Symposium in the mornings before the official program begins!

Zander Porter (ze/xem), a contributor to the LACE Symposium, invites participants of all backgrounds—across spectrums of movement experience, (dis)ability, and (dis)embodiment—to a movement workshop that explores the relationship between emotion and expression.

Drawing from their ongoing choreographic production and research project 3M0T1NG (“emoting”), Zander leads a series of specific and imaginative relational exercises that invite participants to emote through facial expression, bodily gesture, and gaze; to mirror one another; and to experiment with the (de)construction of collective attention as well as the characterization, playfulness, and porousness of “identity.”

Together, the group will engage in guided psychosomatic “micro-ceremonies”—small rituals that focus on noticing how feelings (don’t) arise, move through the body/bodies, and are reflected in oneself and others through various expressive choices. Distinctions between expressive and “un-expressive,” visible and unreadable, eyeballs and sapphire lenses will emerge.

The class is open to all—everyone is welcome, regardless of background or experience level.
