Despite the tensions of the Cold War, the atmosphere in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s was more serene. The idea that a hysterical act could cause the death of billions of humans was considered unlikely and in contradiction with the collective conscience of the West AND the East. But now, in 2024, it is not the same feeling that reigns. Our leaders simply seem overwhelmed by the important tasks to be accomplished: ecology, peace, poverty, lack of resources. The question of how to ‘save the world’ now crosses all social classes, from the most deprived to the most privileged. And logically, artists try to offer their thoughts, their feelings in the hope of sharing with the public. ‘Today, I save the world’ is a funny but nevertheless profound moment, from where we are; a temperature check, a contemporary word that is legitimate. ImPulsTanz not only offers a generous festival of performances and workshops, but also offers open doors to improvised moments, playful and spontaneous expressions of the world in which we struggle as best as we can.

The event picture shows the Dymaxion World Map by Buckminster Fuller. The special feature of this map is that it has far more precision than our ‘school class maps’ and that it shows the world as it really is: a single island surrounded by a large sea.
