Johann Kresnik is one of the most important directors at the interface of dramatic and dance theatre. He was a director and choreographer at the Theater Bremen under the direction of Kurt Hübner. As ballet director in Heidelberg he developed his own style of a modern choreographic theatre. Kresnik’s international career began in the 1980s, which in the following decades led him to almost all cultural centres all over the world. In 1994/95 he moved together with his ensemble to the Volksbühne at Rosa- Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin. 2003 to 2008 he was director of the “Choreographic Theatre” of the city of Bonn. With his productions Macbeth, Ulrike Meinhof, Frida Kahlo and Wendewut Kresnik was invited to the Berliner Theatertre en. In 2010 he created Felix Nussbaum (Theater Osnabrück) and Prince Pückler’s Utopia (Staatstheater Cottbus), in 2011/12 he returned to the Theater Heidelberg for Die Sammlung Prinzhorn, where he also directed the world premiere of Johannes Kalitzke’s opera Pym in 2015/16. For the Volksbühne Berlin he developed Villa Verdi (2013) and in 2015 The 120 Days of Sodom. In 2016 he created The hell / Inferno after Dante Alighieri for the Schauspiel Wuppertal.
