Christine Gaigg is a freelance choreographer, director and author. Under the label 2nd nature, she develops choreographic works at the interfaces of new music, theatre, film and literature. Her collaborations with composers include Sacre Material with Max Nagl (2000 and for the opening of ImPulsTanz – Vienna International Dance Festival 2001 at the MuseumsQuartier courtyard), with Bernhard Lang she developed the TRIKE series (2004–2012) and Maschinenhalle#1, which opened steirischer herbst 2010, with Bernhard Gander Seven Cuts (2011) and with Klaus Schedl untitled (look, look, come closer) (2015). As a director, Gaigg has staged Über Tiere by Elfriede Jelinek (2007, Theater Neumarkt Zurich and Tanzquartier Vienna, revived 2023 at the Odeon Theater Vienna as part of Living Positions) and Wenn die Kinder Steine ins Wasser werfen by Xaver Bayer (2012, Schauspielhaus Vienna). Her performance essays include DeSacre! Pussy Riot meets Vaslav Nijinsky (2013) and CLASH (2016), based on the Orlando assassination about homophobia as an outsourcing of self-hatred. Maybe the way you made love twenty years ago is the answer? (steirischer herbst, 2014), the intimate format of encounter MEET (2018) and Affair (Tanzquartier Vienna, 2019) form a trilogy on the chemistry of desire and the social framing of discourses. Her recent works include Go for it let go, a documentary project on female ejaculation (Tanzquartier Vienna, 2022), and the immersive performance Rote Sonne, based on the film by Rudolf Thome (2022 at Volx/Volkstheater Vienna).
