Alain Buffard lives and works in France. He started dancing in 1978 with Alwin Nikolais at Centre National de Danse Contemporaine in Angers. He danced in several productions of Brigitte Farges and Daniel Larrieu as well as with Régine Chopinot and Philippe Decouflé, ao. He realized a choreography for two plays with Marie-Christine Geoghiu, accompanied by the Rita Mitsuko rock group.
While carrying on his career as a dancer, he has worked as an assistant for exhibitions on R. Zaugg, Fischli, Weiss, Chris Burden and V. Acconci in Anne de Villepoix‘s Gallery. At the same time he has been a correspondent for two Norwegian daily papers covering the visual art events in France.
In 1996 he made two decisive meetings, one with Yvonne Rainer on the occasion of the updating of her play Continuous Project - Altered Daily by the Albrecht Knust Quatuor, and another with Anna Halprin with whom he worked winning the „Villa Medicis Award“.
His choreographies include Bleu Nuit, a solo from 1984, a sequence in the feature film Disparus by G. Bourdos, presented during the „Quinzaine des Réalisateurs“ at the Cannes Film Festival 1998, two trios INtime/EXtime and MORE et encore with Matthieu Doze, Anne Laurent, Rachid Ouramdane and Alain Buffard during the „Choré-graphic“ festival in Tours 1999, Dispositifs 3.1 at the Espace Pier Paolo Pasolini with Anne Laurent, Laurence Louppe, Claudia Triozzi and Alain Buffard in Valenciennes 2001, Dé-marche co-realized with the german visual artist Jan Kopp at Villa Gillet Lyon 2002, ao. He made the video film Des faits et gestes defaits, Villa Gillet Lyon 2001. He has been co-curator with Larys Frogier for the exhibition Campy, vampy, tacky at the Contemporary Art Center La Criée, Rennes, 2002 and actually prepares a new exhibition for the same place for May 2004. He collaborates with the visual artists Frédéric Lormeau and Jean-Baptiste Bruant and is regularly leading workshops in art schools.
His last work Wall dancin‘- wall fuckin‘ with Régine Chopinot premiered 2003 and his solo good boy from 1998 have been presented at ImPulsTanz 2003 in Vienna. Mauvais genre, a revival of good boy for 20 dancer-choreographers and one singer was premiered at Montpellier Danse in 2003 and will be performed again as a special project of the Pro Series at ImPulsTanz 2004.
