Born in Japan, Akemi Takeya has been living and working in Vienna since 1991. As a choreographer and performer, she has collaborated with artists in the fields of dance, theater, film/video, photography and music. She has created numerous dance, video and performance pieces in collaboration with such artists as Wolfgang Mitterer, Tom Cora, Christian Fennesz, Granular Synthesis (model 5 /1994), Ong Ken Seng, Benoît Lachambre, Rechenzentrum, Zbigniew Karkowski as well as her own solo and group performances, such as Feeler, ZZ, Black Honey Drops, Bodypoems, Little Stories about S.O.S. as well as her publication of her performance recipe book, and Schrei X8. With her ongoing project LEMONISM she confronts different art movements of the 20th century, featured as both theater and museum version in a bodily investigation; her most recent work is The Act of LemoDada (2023).
And her new group piece currently in development is a sci-fi based piece TRANSIENT SHIFTS – Beyond the now in breaking out of the body simply to let us fly away, which is a performative journey to the planet Ayviss. As a singer-songwriter, she is active in the duo band Fantomtails with Sebastian Bauer (electronic music), and also does Vocal sessions with KERN / QUEHENBERGER.
