BIOGRAPHY

Julia Schwarzbach is a performer, choreographer and teacher based in Salzburg. She studied at SEAD and holds a Master in Performance and Creative Research from Roehampton University London. She has worked internationally with artists such as Sasha Waltz, Tania Bruguera and Ivana Müller and continuously creates her own work since 2009. Her pieces have been presented, amongst others, by Barbican London, Matadero Madrid, Traverse Theatre Edinburgh, Internationale Architekturtage, SUPERSTADT Linz, Sommerszene and ARGEkultur Salzburg. She initiated the Performance and Research collective under construction and in 2015 conducted a Turbo Research residency during the ImPulsTanz Festival in Vienna. In 2016 she received the yearly grant for performing arts by Land Salzburg. On invitation by SZENE Salzburg she was an Associated Artists in the European network apap – Performing Europe 2020. In 2021–22 she worked in the organising team of the post-degree university programme Curation in the Performing Arts at University Salzburg. She is an artistic collaborator at SZENE Salzburg in the outreach&community building programme, taking care of formats such as the YOUNG VIBES series, a regular teachers table, masterclasses and workshops in the frame of Sommerszene and moderates artist talks. As part of the Feminist Futures Festival she curated the programme of the Feminist School in 2022. She is a guest teacher at institutions such as Thomas Bernhard Institute Mozarteum University, the Department of Musicology and Dance Studies University Salzburg, and ZHdK Zürich.
