Mei Bao (they/them) is a Berlin-based performer, martial artist, musician, and sound producer, whose artistic practice is deeply rooted in interdisciplinarity, with a focus on open, amateuristic, and accessible practices. They have performed as a drummer and vocalist in the band Felines, touring across Europe, and as a performer in the activist art group GP&PLS (Goodiepal & Pals). They were a part of the open activist choir “Aktivistkoret” formed during the COVID-19 lockdown in Copenhagen, where the group developed new forms of activism, including writing interactive political songs and movement practices for public interventions and demonstrations.
Mei’s current artistic work includes performing with choreographers Lisanne Goodhue (CA) and Kai Merke (DK), teaching traditional Chinese movement practices, and creating soundscapes for dance pieces. They are also developing their own projects based on the Chinese straight sword. In 2023, Mei participated in danceWEB, and in 2024, they co-facilitated a Public Moves class at ImPulsTanz Festival together with Jule Flierl. Their artistic journey continues to bridge various forms of expression, creating meaningful connections between movement, music, and activism.
