Deirdre is a human, human-ing… Along the way, they developed a few skills, shared them with others, led folks on life-altering artistic and healing journeys, and performs as a site-responsive movement artist, teacher, and curator around the globe. deirdre is the former Executive Director of Earthdance Creative Living Project, Managing Director of Dancing Earth Creations, and Artistic and Managing Director of Wise Fool New Mexico.
Deirdre currently co-produces and curates the LACE Symposium on Dance and Other Contemporary Practices at ImPulsTanz, as well as directing her own project, The Forgotten Body Remembers.
Deirdre's artistic research explores the relationship between the organic world and animist culture, manmade structures and ideas, and the stories and desires we place upon them. Her current interest rests in tracking sensations within seasons, particularly the quality of light in forests, how time passes, what space feels like, and what wants to be made conscious through relational knowing. Recently, at workshops held at Becoming Monster in partnership with the School of Liminal Arts and the Emergence Network, a series of short films, installations, and associated workshops took place: Land/Tree/Sky/Window. These were created with Esther Baker-Tarpaga of Propelled Animals. The project’s themes, Mapping the Feminine and The Forgotten Body Remembers, were presented in various locations across the USA, Europe, and Central and South America.
Deirdre is interested in mobilizing audience agency through interaction, unconventional uses of space, and by presenting work open enough for the audience to enter with their own reflections and stories. “My work steers away from making statements. I don’t have any answers. I ask questions, open doors, hold mirrors, create relationships. I seek to complicate, exacerbate, and occasionally offer balm.”
