BIOGRAPHY

Leonie Humitsch has been dancing since the age of 5, studied contemporary dance education at the MUK/Music & Art University in Vienna (former Conservatory, graduated in 2010) and art & economy at the University of Applied Arts (graduated in 2016). She is a freelance dancer, choreographer and dance mediator and performs in Austria, Germany, Slovenia and Switzerland in her own productions and at international festivals, including the Festspielhaus St.Pölten, Schauspielhaus Salzburg, Stadttheater Klagenfurt, Odeon and WUK in Vienna, Landestheater Vorarlberg, Kulturwerkstatt Memmingen (DE), Kunstfestspiele Herrenhausen Hannover (DE), Tanzfest in St.Gallen (CH) etc. She has worked for and with choreographers such as Silvia Costa, Simon Mayer, Willi Dorner, Renate Graziadei, Bert Gstettner, Andrea K. Schlehwein etc. In 2016, Leonie received the Performing Arts Award from the State of Carinthia and was a member of the Advisory Board for Performing Arts in the Carinthian Cultural Board (2018–2024). Under her label freitanz, founded in 2018, she creates transdisciplinary works by collaborating with artists from the fields of music, media art, architecture and literature. Since 2022, she has also been working as a dance mediator at the Festspielhaus St. Pölten and creates points of contact between international guest performances, visitors and dance enthusiasts, both amateur and professional. Her mission is to create space for contemporary dance and to promote dance in all its forms.
