BIOGRAPHY

Astrid Weger-Purkhart, Mag.art. Dr.phil., studied art and movement/sport and completed her doctorate in sports science at the University of Salzburg. In 1992, she graduated from the Laban Centre in London with a Diploma in Dance Studies. She developed the Dance in Schools curriculum as a long-form programme, including an A-level qualification in dance, and delivers training courses in Creative Dance, Laban Studies, and Curriculum Dance.

She is a speaker at both national and international events, including Tanz und Schule, Dance and the Child International (DaCi), Tanzkunst in die Schule, Tanzimpulse Salzburg, Musikimpulse Salzburg, KUG Graz, Paris-Lodron University and KinderUNI Salzburg, Ostertanztage Salzburg, Tanzhouse Festival, UniArts SKH Stockholm, and the Society for Dance Research. Her own dance and choreographic works have been featured in drama, opera, and dance productions. In 1999, she founded the Centre for Movement STUDIO13 in Salzburg, where she continues to serve as director.

Astrid Weger-Purkhart works as a dance teacher at the Musisches Gymnasium Salzburg, a choreographic coach, and a lecturer in dance at Mozarteum University Salzburg. Together with Petra Ried, she leads the further education programme and university course Dance in Schools.
