PROGRAMME
Jennifer Lacey is a dance artist raised in New York City. Based in Paris for over 20 years, she is currently an Assistant Professor at Stockholm University of the Arts, where she directs the MA programme in Choreography. Her ongoing project involves a renegotiation of production methods in dance-based art projects to experiment with what the form can do. She creates across the fields of choreography, performance, and publications, proposing an inventive and playful hermeneutics of bodies and their environments.
Often co-signing and collaborating, her works unbind dance from the spectacular while still investing in the multiple ways in which the performative can manifest and impact the world. Her works have been produced and staged internationally in theatres, museums, galleries, workshops, and publications. The workshop space and the dance class have been fruitful spaces for her to develop innovative pedagogical forms that teach art through art.
She is a recipient of the Doris Duke Impact Fellowship, the Foundation for the Performing Arts Award, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. An incomplete collection of her influences and colleagues over the years includes Jennifer Monson, DD Dorvillier, Sarah Michelson, Nadia Lauro, Alice Chauchat, Barbara Manzetti, Zeena Parkins, Jonathan Bepler, Wally Cardona, and Valentina Desideri. For the past seven years, she has been a member of an ongoing peer-to-peer research cohort founded in the DAS THIRD! programme at Amsterdam University of the Arts.
