PROGRAMME
Tian Mansha is a prominent performing artist of Sichuan Opera, actress and director. She is currently deputy dean of Shanghai Theatre Academy (STA)'s Chinese Opera College, deputy director of Shanghai Youth Peking-Kun Opera Troupe and Research Fellow of the Intercultural Institute of the Free University in Berlin. She received numerous awards such as twice the China Theatre Plum Blossom Award, Outstanding Mentors of Cultural Ministry and many more. In addition she embarked on two study-tours in the United States under the auspices of U.S.-based Asian Cultural Council (ACC).
Next to art creation and performance, Tian is also engaged in art education and art administration. She is not only a forerunner in the contemporary Sichuan Opera reform, but also one of the important symbolising person in contemporary Chinese Opera Theatre, engaged in acting, directing and teaching, all at the same time. Tian starred in and directed major Sichuan Opera Plays and experimental drama such as "Ripples in the Still Water" and "Lady Macbeth" amongst many others.
Tian has participated in many theatre and art festivals a.o. the China Arts Festival, Shakespeare Arts Festival in Bremen (2001, DE), Macao Arts Festival, the Hong Kong in Berlin Arts Festival at the House of World Cultures in Berlin (2000), the Cultural Memories Between Past and Future shown at the House of World Cultures in Berlin (2006), and the Europalia Chinese Art Festival in Belgium (2009).
In 2006, Tian Mansha co-edited the German edition of the book Living Memories: Contemporary Chinese Opera with Dr. Johannes Odenthal from the Berlin Academy of Science and Arts, which was published in Germany.
She has been invited to work for a year in New York by the Asian Arts Council of the Rockefeller Foundation, to the Interweaving Performance Culture Research Institute of the Free University Berlin also for one year, by Prof. Heiner Goebbels to work as guest professor at Giessen University, as well as to workshops, seminars and lectures.
