Ibrahim Quraishi (NL/KE)

BIOGRAPHY

Ibrahim Quraishi belongs to a new generation of performance makers challenging our understanding of visual performativity by consciously examining the dynamics' dispossession while freely playing with the tensions between the complexity of the real and our longing for simplicity. Quraishi is a performer, choreographer, visual artist and teacher in Amsterdam at the SNDO (School for New Dance & Development) and member of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Gerrit Rietveld Acadamie.
He was one of the first recipients of the Ö1 Prix Jardin d’Europe Prize for his performance Installation "Islamic Violins" at ImPulsTanz 2008. Defined by a nomadic existence, Quraishi divides his time in multiple cities in researching, teaching and creating works for Kochi-Muziris Biennale, Manifestly Present’/Manifesta 9 (Genk), HAU: Hebbel am Ufer (Berlin), Japan Foundation Tokyo, National Museum of Singapore, Africa Center (Cape Town), Holland Festival (Amsterdam), artCENA (Rio de Janeiro), X Baltic Triennial Vilnius, iDANS Istanbul, BAM Next Wave Festival (New York), Springdance (Utrecht) and Expo 2010 Shanghai among others.
