Michael Laub / Remote Control Productions (NL/BE )
ADAPTATIONS - a video retrospective remix / talk by Michael Laub
Like Maguy Marin, Ismael Ivo or Jan Fabre, for example, he belongs to the golden generation of dance and performance art that emerged in the roaring eighties and swept the European theatre stages with unorthodox artistic means like a breath of fresh air. But Michael Laub’s career began as far back as 1975 in Stockholm, Sweden. That’s when he first began to experiment with the performance art group Maniac Productions before he founded his performance label Remote Control Productions in 1981. Now, exactly forty years later, Michael Laub can look back on an eventful career with dizzying ups and disquieting downs that provide the best material imaginable for a varied video lecture evening like this one. In 1984, he performed Return of Sensationat the Biennale di Venezia, later he celebrated successes with productions such as Rough (1994), Total Masala Slammer (2001) and the Portrait Series, which was shown at Burgtheater in 2011. Most recently, he delighted the audience with the piece Rolling at ImPulsTanz two years ago.
