Space as Motivation
Space motivates to move. Directions, shapes and pathways provide nutrition for physical action. The body is organising and re-organising itself constantly while creating, approaching, following and digesting these representations of space. The diversity of efforts involved in this process creates dynamic and expressive variety. Pulling, pushing, resisting, letting go, rising, dropping, falling, hitting, kicking are elements I like to play with. What does it taste like? The aim of this workshop is to introduce material that explores space in a rigorous way, offering appetisers for technical and artistic movement research. I refer to German Expressionist Tradition (Laban, Jooss-Leeder, Cébron, Bausch) by breaking up its stylistic framework and pulling its principles into new extremes. Simple to complex warm-up exercises and improvisation are followed by combinations across the room.
