Aesthetic expansion of natural movement
The Contemporary Jazz Class begins with the fundamentals of natural movements leading into the development of the body's technical resources such as the necessary turn-out of the legs from the hip joint. Leg extensions and the formal use of the arms in preparations are incorporated into some of the following exercises and phrases. The basic feeling of wholeness should remain the dominant characteristic of all the movements. There will be body stretches in continuous curves, both convex and concave as well as successional movement phrases as part of the centre work as an aesthetic expansion of natural movement. The technique by itself has the power to stimulate and release energy forces within the students in expressive and conscious application.
The class ends with a long combination.
