ad noctum

This duet draws all the senses into its spell. First, there is silence. Then the music starts and steadily increases in volume and intensity. As if driven by an invisible maelstrom, a woman and a man are dancing folk and ballroom dance motifs on a dance floor designed like a labyrinth. Behind them towers a showcase-like monolithic cuboid, lighted cold-white and blinking. According to French choreographer and designer Christian Rizzo, it is the “third protagonist” of his piece. The sinister-looking machine is the dancers’ antagonist. The monolith’s “dance” consists of light, pulsation and sound. So ad noctum is the right place for those who want to know what the dark side of “Dancing Stars” looks like. In this tribute to the night, Rizzo takes ballroom dancing out of the glittery lustre of the competition and the pleasantness of the ballroom and into a mysterious, dark and eerie twilight world. And near the end of the storm of virtuoso dissections of dance, everything is turned upside down once more...
