He was the cherry blossom of Japanese butoh, a poet and lyricist, who made the “dance of darkness” appear in a dreamy light: Kazuo Ohno, who still danced when he was 100 years old. Takao Kawaguchi, former member of the artists’ collective Dumb Type, plays with this light. To do so, he has put together his very own versions of Ohno’s most important dances, derived from videos, to create a queer and controversial evening, featuring Admiring La Argentina, for example, or My Mother and Dead Sea. A solo that takes the form of “a duet I dance with the illusory image of Kazuo Ohno”, as Kawaguchi puts it.
