Ich bin O.K. Dance Company (AT)
The puzzles of life can be complicated or exciting or real challenges. Sometimes what it takes is encouragement and inspiration to meet the consistently unpredictable course of events with acceptance and joy. That’s the primary focus of Hana and Attila Zanin’s efforts with the Ich bin O.K. Dance Company, founded by them in 2010, and with this in mind they have generated special and inclusive dance pieces with enthusiasm and much feeling. They do so again in their latest piece, “Separated – United”, in which more than a dozen dancers with and without disabilities present a choreographic puzzle of tender touches and spirited scenes. The story is as follows: a child is born and learns to fend for themself. Then they start to dance their own way – using contemporary as well as hip-hop moves, whirling between fantasy and reality, cheerful and boisterous, brave and audacious. Add to this romance, wit and, most importantly, great music – including by Elvis – as well as little surprises and liberal amounts of empathy.
