Volmir Cordeiro (FR/BR)
The eye the mouth and the rest
Adapted for blind and partially sighted
How does it dance, our “obsessive fear of what we cannot see”? Why is the eye more than it seems, for example “a tool to explore what’s inside, hidden, prehuman, tactile, dark and intense”? Following this line of thought, Brazilian choreographer Volmir Cordeiro makes four bodies and their eight eyes dive into seeing, and, once there, into everything that more or less takes the shape of a sphere – for example the sun, an egg or an arena. After his solo Inês, Cordeiro returns to ImPulsTanz, this time in the scope of The Humane Body project: with hot hands in front of the face, noisy movements of the mouth and fingers that run all over the body. With eyes closed, this body opens up a view of the “rest” of the external world – of all that is usually blocked out, repressed and forgotten.
