Marlene Monteiro Freitas with Andreas Merk (CV/PT & DE)
It used to be so exciting, so symbiotic and normal. But now it’s just a fitness ritual for worn out feelings. A man and a woman step out of the previous boundaries of their relationship and into a carnivalesque show, in which David Bowie celebrates a love anthem, Igor Strawinsky’s Le Sacre du printemps begins to play and the song Jaguar by Prince lies in wait: “Like a hunter in the wilderness / I’m gonna try and do my best / I’m gonna use speed and finesse / I’m gonna getcha...” As if driven by unseen forces, Marlene Monteiro Freitas and Andreas Merk dance as puppets in a circus of the unconscious mind. They dance wildly, tenderly and desperately in the song of the Jaguar: “She loves a body fine / In heat, in love, in out, in time / Jaguar I am and U are mine.” A large horse stands on stage, stock-still. Interlaced with recollections of the Blauer Reiter group of artists and artist Adolf Wölfli, the couple, haunted by its ghosts, gallop into the future on an excess of emotions.
