14 July: TOJU KAE (live / Neopren Records) & DJ-support by Monophobe

Toju Kae is an electronic musician from Vienna. His musical style ranges from playful electronica to reeled up house sounds, soulful future r’n’b and crispy bass music. He just released his second album „Unfold“ (Neopren Records).

"Ever questioning the paradigms of musical expression and sound production, 21-year-old Vienna-based sound artist and producer Maximilian Walch constantly tries to push the boundaries of sonic horizons as Monophobe. His work is invasive and soothing at the same time - explorations of the possibilities hidden between noises, sound and vocals, which can range from relaxing and mesmerizing to exhilarating and energizing. In his efforts to intertwine the purity of instrumental recordings with Electronica, neither off-sounding beats, exotic and everyday sounds nor organic musical elements are off limits. The rush and flow of Monophobe's music may move slowly and gently or come crashing into your subconscious - it is bound to move you." (S. Hoelbling)

17 July: Soia (live) & DJ-support by Olinclusive

Singer and lyricist Soia loves her producer Mez’ beats. The two Viennese musicians first collaborated for their 2011 single Obtaining that received love from blogs such as Moovment and BamaloveSoul, and was featured on radio shows and mixes all over the world. Soia and Mez have released their first album Mood Swings on Philadelphia-based label record breakin’ in 2013. Melancholic and gentle, then demandingly powerful, Soia’s vocals oscillate between soul and electronic hip hop, dancing effortlessly over the Dilla-esque beats and beautiful harmonization of Mez. The biotechnologist’s lyrics are engagingly weird, treating incestuous turtles, lucid dreaming, bipolar relationships, metaphysical crocodiles or tropical presentiments. The half Israeli Mez has been producing for over ten years and is possessed by the search for the perfect sound. The Jazz pianist has produced for US rapper Raashan Ahmad, and even Redman has visited the Viennese studio to pick beats. His first solo album with collaborations was released on UK’s Expansions collective in 2015. The previous Soia album being more neo soul, the new material is world music sample oriented, and contains sample flakes of artists such as Mulatu Astatke, John Coltrane, Kurdish and South African traditionals. The album Hidden in Obvious Places is definitely more danceable, with deeper bass and stronger vocals.

Olinclusive is very well known as a talented DJ in the Austrian Hip Hop scene. He got his djing inspiration while listening to DJ Cut Killer, DJ Kost and DJ Goldfinger. In 2007 it was just the beginning of a successful career. He described the moment when he was the opener for DJ Krush as an unforgettable step-stone in his life.
Olinclusive’s style of djing is full of surprises, while reading the audience, he will also drop an unexpected track - matching the mood of the happening. He has the talent to make his signature-sound essential with his flow but also breaks in continuity.

The Clonious © Lupi Spuma

20 July: Affine Records Summer Session feat. The Clonious & Wandl hosted by The Gap

Imagine running into The Clonious, that dude equipped with hundred headphones which directly interact with his musical epicentre. He elegantly puts together the apparent inconsiderable and the clearly essential elements, subsequently he breaks –music- into rhythm + harmonies to reach a point at which it is incontrovertible to discuss the perception that jazz is the mother of it all. A soulsearcher and vinyl aficionado who wouldn’t mind to know how to smash a breakdance in a jam packed club, usually he ticks out without being asked anyhow though. His journey started in 2007 where he participated at the Red Bull Music Academy in Toronto. Just 2 years later he got signed by San Francisco based Ubiquity Records releasing his debut album “Between the Dots” which received great attention and reputation all over the world. In 2010 he teamed up with his labelmate Cid Rim for the split EP “Full Nelson” and served a fine blend of various uptempo styles plus a collaboration with respected Detroit Vocalist Paul Randolph. Over the years The Clonious proved his qualities as a versatile DJ from Vienna to Cape Town. As a remixer as well - you can find various trademark reworks for the likes of Alice Russell, longtime companion Dorian Concept or Krts on his visiting card.

"From the start music has been connected to visuals for me", reckons Wandl. If you listen to the 20-year-old musician and producer who grew up near Vienna reflect on his personal creative epicenter it's not all about the social setting for the music. Wandl recalls early violin lessons, starting to sing at an early age and learning a lot of various English lyrics by heart from CD booklets. However, he emphasizes his imaginings are really derived from drawings. Hip Hop was no obstacle for him but rather became his main inspiration and reference point. During his early teens Wandl began to experiment with music production software and writing his first songs. Since then he has doggedly pursued a musical vision to push the boundaries of musical genres. Wandl builds low-flying and tightly braided beats, which he combines with free-floating vocals and engaging melodies. His seemingly fragile designs are transformed in an amazing way in vivid soundscapes that blur into a synthetic lucid dream. Similar parameters also apply to his live shows, which he realises with good friend and visual artist Clemens Haas.

"Maybe i wouldn´t have said it back then, but in hindsight one has to admit though that Jagger is a bit uptight. What´s the point of that? Perhaps he accepted that title to please his parents."

27 July: 7 Citizens (Praterei, Hundred20, LACK) & Kido Soon (Praterei)

Kido Soon bought crappy turntables in 2001 because he thought that it was a good idea. So he accidentially became a dj. During the last decade the vibe of his favourite music has hardly changed, that's probably why he doesn't like temporary hypes too much. In his dj-sets you can expect obscure disco dubs as well as acid house or techno from the motor city ... and if he's playing a jazz record at a club gig, it means that he obviously loves the crowd. Since 2009 he's been working as a part of the Praterei collective - together with 7 Citizens he co-hosted the weekly radioshow “313 DetroitJazzin” on Superfly from 2009 until 2012 – and currently he´s also working as a freelance graphic designer, but that´s a whole different story. Oh, and Kido Soon wrote this little text himself because he didn't have enough time to ask anyone else. Sorry for that and Bussi! 7 Citizens aka Austrian musician and producer Felix Bergleiter started off djing in 1993. Starting with hiphop, headz and turntablism, he made his acquaintance with broken beats in the early 2000s and finally fell for those house and techno vibes pretty soon after. Since 1997 Felix has been (and still is) part of one of Austria ś and Germany ś most finest and influential HipHop outfits - the Waxolutionists. In the past 15 or 20 years he´s been nothing else but busy: working with Motor City Drum Ensemble as”Hundred20”, co-hosting a radioshow on Superfly.fm, co-founding and booking the legendary “Praterei” parties, working for both RUN VIE & Prater Unser festivals, playing live gigs with his modular synths, playing tons of records, more scratching and record manipulating with the Waxolutionists, jamming with 60 Minits Of Funk, releasing records on various imprints, playing & performing even more live (current jointventure called “GOLDEG” with Viennese DJ Florian Scheibein) and few things more, that go beyond the scope of this sheet. He´s currently living on Ibiza, working for a new recordlabel & partybrand from Uk/Vienna called OFFLINE. Oh and he´s waiting for the even longer awaited, brandnew Waxolutionists longplayer, scheduled for late fall 2016.

31 July: The Unused Word (live) & DJ support by Restless Leg Syndrome

Soft and tender like good red wine.
Anna Schauberger alias The Unused Word is music producer, composer, singer, DJ and radio presenter. Stylewisely you can locate her between HipHop, Trip Hop, Pop, Romantic and Electro Accoustic. Her gig companion is a 85kg weighing Fender Rhodes stage piano. Well, what else do you need to know?!

Although it might cause a similar urge, the Restless Leg Syndrome we’re talking about here is of a less harmful nature. It’s a musical team from Austria consisting of longtime DJ and producer d.b.h and the two turntable wizards Chrisfader and Testa, who split up most of the Austrian DJ championships between each other in the last decade and also made a name for themselves as producers. The concept behind their joint-venture is quite simple: Take a specific genre of music, sample and flip it into danceable beats.

13 August: Affine Records Summer Session feat. Zanshin (Affine Records) & The Reboot Joy Confession hosted by FAQ

Zanshin is a musician, sound artist and producer of electronic music from Vienna, Austria. The name "Zanshin" is a concept from Japanese martial arts and translates roughly as "omnidirectional attention", reflecting his many inspirations and interests - correspondingly he tries to channel his ideas mostly into three creative outlets: As Zanshin he releases music on Affine Records and disko404 and his tracks and remixes are covering a broad range from driving, polyrhythmic dancefloor affairs to experimental beatless sonic structures, sometimes massive, sometimes fragile. Zanshin appears on stage either as a live act, arranging his tracks live and providing an inspiring, challenging and powerful experience. Or as a DJ, where he simply likes to provide great music to dance to, playing modern techno/bass music and/or house music with a funk and jazz vibe. Together with his friend Daniel Kohlmeigner he releases music under the name "Ogris Debris". Their trademark sound is a mixture of vocal hooklines and inventive and vigorous house music with which they are aiming to entertain audiences with their energetic live shows. Last but not least Zanshin teams up with his friend and artist/programmer Leonhard Lass as the duo "Depart", conceiving and creating immersive, memorable and sometimes haunting AV-installations and performances with a poetic twist.
