History of Violence
This is going to be a performance in tribute to the past and the battles to come for a better world. The Superamas collective tackle the connections between history and violence, whose relics are stored in ethnological archives like the Weltmuseum to preserve them for posterity. The assigned task of conservation generates universal respect for these pieces of evidence and the museum itself seems like a vault. Superamas want to exhibit the museum’s collection outside of display cabinets: “The objects provide access to the memory of civilisation. But there are also connotations of insurgence and struggle. The recording of the past has been interspersed with violence. The museum feels like a safe place. But it smells of bloodshed, dramas and traumas.” Because not all of the old collectors motivated by colonialism were simply art lovers. It is this extreme contradiction which Superamas are interested in. On three days performers from Superamas’ research project will dance History of Violence in the museum as part of ImPulsTanz. The piece will focus on the fear of being hunted and the presumptuousness of hunting.
