Yuya Tsukahara (JP)

SoftMachine (Japan)
by Choy Ka Fai

How can conflicting emotions like love and pain or apparent opposites like dance and violence be brought together? The answer is simple: with contact Gonzo, a unique dance group from the Japanese city of Osaka. In their documentary performance for Choy Ka Fai’s SoftMachine series, two young men grapple, dance and talk on stage. For example, one wrestles the other, pushes him to the ground and says: “I never found a perfect definition of dance.” With statements like these, choreographer Yuya Tsukahara takes his audience right into contact Gonzo’s art of movement, which is both challenging and ironic.

European premiere
Duration: 40 min

Evening ticket: combine the performance with the second performance at Weltmuseum at the same evening and pay for both performances € 30,- instead of € 36,-.
