Queer Fashion

Audience Speed Dating with Fran and Jimena after BLINK – mini unison intense lamentation by Michelle Moura, 21.07.2019

It would be great if we could speak about queer fashion. Do you think for performances like BLINK it is important to understand the codes of it? Like tonight maybe the play with the manner of covering and uncovering body parts in a way that is more unexpected than just putting your breasts out?

Jimena: Many performances of the festival are carrying information about gender and queer fashion, even if there are little trans people involved  –

Fran: I think there is a necessity in abstracting the borders of gender. Because the binary border is not real. It is a fiction. As well as beauty is a kind of fiction. Queerness is not only about overcoming the binaries but also about the diversity of bodies and of beauty. In this sense, BLINK could be seen as using queer feminist aesthetics. It’s going beyond the “canon”.
