Yoga
a meditation in physical revelation or a continued state of prayer

Because so much contemporary dance incorporates yoga into its class or
choreographic framework, it is essential that students have the
physical infrastructure to meet the changing demands of the dance
medium. In this workshop students will be given the muscular/skeletal
fundamentals for the practice of Hatha yoga. Particular attention
will be given to the diaphragmatic/psoas complex and how this
anatomical region relates to the spine, pelvis and limbs, especially
in inversions. The devotional discipline of yoga cultivates courage
and sensitivity, and this workshop will stay true to the practice of
yoga by empowering students to move/live with a greater sense of grace
and self-acceptance. This workshop will dramatically alter how you
perceive yoga as a personal practice. Open to dancers and non-dancers
alike, local yoga enthusiasts will not feel left out!

Yoga for Dancers
move your sacred ass!

This workshop is specifically designed for dancers. Please note: This
is not asana dance. The intention of this class is to make the
immediate link between yoga and dance as movement practices. It will
investigate the vocabulary of yoga, which has traditionally been
practiced in a more static form and evolve these physical structures,
through improvisation and set material, into dynamic movement
experiences. It is less about style and more about using familiar
landmarks to seek your own personal pathway. Strong contemporary,
ballet or locking/popping training suggested.

Sri Louise
Sri Louise is an independent, internationally recognised yoga teacher who began her practice at the Jivamukti Center in NYC in 1993. In 2001 she created the Underground Yoga Parlour for Self-Knowledge and Social Justice in San Francisco where in addition to on-going classes in both asana and philosophy, she designed and conducted two rigorous teacher training programs. Her forte as a teacher is in her keen understanding of alignment as it pertains to both asana and ontology. Sri is a disciple of Swami Dayananda Sarasvati, under whose tutelage she studies Vedanta, Sanskrit, Vedic chanting and Vaidika Dharma. Sri Louise currently resides and teaches in Europe where she is pursuing her career as an autonomous, contemporary dance artist.
