Islamic Violins
"Islamic violins" from Ibrahim Quraishi took place in Nadia Lauros Installation "I hear voices" at project space Kunsthalle/Wien during the festival ImPulsTanz.
All parts of the violin blasted during the performative Installation were put into a wooden box ( includin CD with the sound of the installation), signed by the artist and marked with the date of the performance.
“All aesthetics are loaded with ideology”, says director and media artist Ibrahim Quraishi. Going far beyond classic social commentary, he treats politically charged topics in his works and reflects the role of technology in society. In the performative installation “Islamic Violins” real explosions (which are embedded in a constantly transforming sound environment by French electronic artist Norscq) are juxtaposed with the echo of the medial flood of images of the countless wasted bodies.
Ibrahim Quraishi has shown his works, among others, at the Springdance Festival (Utrecht), at the Biennale in Bonn, at the Japan Foundation (Tokyo), Le Batofar (Paris) and The Kitchen (New York). In addition to his dance education he studied Middle Eastern languages and literature, including under Edward Saïd at Columbia University (New York).
Size of the box: 9,5 cm x 11 cm x 28,5 cm
