Jonathan Burrows, former solo dancer of the London Royal Ballet who defected to experimental dance, has, after theatre person Jan Ritsema, found another extraordinary dance partner: the Italian composer Matteo Fargion. Critics have received their „Both Sitting Duet“ enthusiastically. At the beginning of the performance both dancers, casually dressed in jeans and T-Shirts, sit down on two chairs – and remain sitting. Their dense and complex composition of finger, hand and arm movements, its controlled minimalism and rigid performance do have a provoking quality. Speed, concentration, clear rhythm and continuity are characteristics of this radical masterpiece, in which human bodies make music and structure is being derived from the very moment.
