Rosas / Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker (BE)
En Atendant

A brand new piece by the famous Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. In her last project, “The Song”, which was shown at ImPulsTanz in 2009, she examined the music of the Beatles, and in her collaboration with Jérôme Bel, “3Abschied”, she dealt with Mahler. Now the artist is travelling far back through time to the late Middle Ages, to the years between 1377 and 1420, in which a type of music was cultivated that was referred to as “ars subtilior”. It was a time of new departures. The Hundred Years’ War had been going on since 1340, the plague had descended upon Europe and an extensive change was becoming apparent in the arts. The polyphonies of ars subtilior were among the signs of the crumbling foundations of the Middle Ages. For De Keersmaeker these new departures are of great relevance with regard to the major confusions and radical changes of the present. Based on the complex, intellectual form of medieval music that is founded on contrasts and dissonances, the artist searches for a new relationship between dance and music.
