Cie. Heddy Maalem (F/SEN)
"Black Spring“
Toulouse-based African choreographer Heddy Maalem goes back to the very heart of his native continent, presenting an eerily beautiful, shocking collision of grandeur and misery, and providing a glimpse on unresting, energetic and contradictory Africa.
The eight marvellous dancers of his Cie. Ivoire perform a dance and body theatre that centres around a Schubert Quintet and a baroque menuet as basis for a gripping burlesque satirizing all the well-known images – homegrown and foreign – of the African people, thus rendering a merciless statement about the status quo of the relationship between black and white.
