Jan Fabre / Troubleyn (BE)
"Orgy of Tolerance"
An excessive stage orgy is Flemish art titan Jan Fabre’s answer to the “Orgy of Tolerance” of late capitalism. And thus also an answer to the errors of the raging fraternity of speculators that had beamed themselves up into a virtual Mount Olympus where they would not get enough until the market prices dropped into their pants. In the downward spiral of the financial crisis, Fabre and his dancers trace the vile ecstasies of consumerism that act on the principle of “anything goes”. With the embarrassing type of comedy associated with Monty Python and a seemingly surreal vehemence, with unambiguous images, obscene gestures and gross scenes the performance hits out at that which the perversions of the World Bankruptors feed upon.
“Orgy of Tolerance” presents an immoderate, vacant egotism, the destruction of lust and fulfilment through ritualised spending sprees, a pimped-up sexuality and the cruel passivity of antisocial couch potatoes in front of their television sets.
