"Bocal: T.P."

The French choreographer Boris Charmatz is not only an artist crossing many borders; he also takes a passionate interest in various strategies of enlightenment, and since he attempts and successfully manages to combine training, teaching, discourse and emancipation, he also engages in art education. Boris Charmatz’ project "Bocal" is the exact opposite of conservative dance training. This project, initiated in the course of ImPulsTanz 03, attempts on fusing contemporary art, discourse teaching and an idiosyncratic artistic self-concept. Since last summer Charmatz and fifteen other artists have continued their work on "Bocal" in the cities of Brest, Paris, Lyon, Dubrovnik and others; their shared experiences will now be incorporated into a pedagocical marathon against the nightmares of conventional knowledge transfer as provided by traditional institutions.
