"108 EB – Kammermusik für 4 Motoren & Bedienungspersonal"

Excessive machismo and breakneck speed: Four combustion engines are hanging on steel cables; they are throwing flames and producing a diabolical noise. There is chamber music exceeding the threshold of pain, and roaring machines let loose on Mozart’s "Idomeneo". With his noise oratorio "108 EB" Salzburg-based artist Hubert Lepka sets out to overtake the Catalan theatre actionists "La Fura dels Baus".
With his multi-branched network Lawine Torrèn he investigates the relationship between sound, picture and the perception of movement: "Without sound every car race would be boring", says Hubert Lepka. The piece was inspired by the 15th anniversary of Herbert von Karajan’s day of death: As an extra in "Maskenball" Lepka once had to let himself down a rope in a hazardous manouvre. Karajan’s comment in the last rehearsal before he died: "Well, do they happen to have any insurance?"
