"Kylián, Van Manen & Naharin"

With "Kylián, Van Manen & Naharin" three outstanding choreographers and the young Nederlands Dans Theater II are going to present a truely spellbinding evening. Jiri Kyliáns "27’52’’" is a philosophically influenced ballet for six dancers who, in terms of expression, precision and speed, seem to exceed all expectations. Eastern spirituality and Western aesthetics are being melt together with breathtaking intensity, the electronic music varies lyrical motifs by Gustav Mahler, and the reduced stage design displays a haunting alternation of light and shadow. For "Simple Things" Hans Van Manen combines intense duetts with superb solo parts, thus creating a clear-cut choreography full of verve. A subsequence of cautious touches and impetuous approaches, of coming together and falling apart, creates images of a love blazing up and getting extinct. As in the men trio "Solo", Hans Van Manen has the dance move through the score in a logical and nonetheless surprising way. Ohad Naharins humorous "Minus 16" is a fantastic piece designed for the whole corps de ballet of NDT II and combines elements taken from some of the choreographer’s earlier works, i.e. "Zachacha", "Anaphase", "Sabotage Baby" and "Moshe". The score is a mix of cha cha cha, mambo and traditional israeli music. At the end, individual persons from the audience are invited to join the dancers on stage...
