Wendy Houstoun
Video as a window allowing glimpses on the media world behind the real world. Old movies, countdown numbers, a close-up of feet preparing for a dance: In „48 Almost Love Lyrics“ London choreographer and dancer Wendy Houstoun acts as presenter as well as object in one of media’s surreal recycling processes. Sardonically, even cynically she collects absurdity after absurdity, changes identities, wears a fashionable little coat, dances as she is advised, then puts on a rubber mask à la Paul McCarthy. She is a freaky dj destroying his records. Or a mediocre rock singer. Suddenly there is a movie murder scene from the off. The victim is screaming, again and again. A beach full of surfers, a seagull, and, and … Scene after scene we watch debris from the media matrix pile up, forming macabre yet tender „live love lyrics“.
