How to survive in times when universally applicable values lose their meaning? When the truth does not go without saying and everything you have ever believed in is uprooted? How adaptable are humans, and: will they dare take the leap in the dark?
The crisis of the individual in a radically changing world is the starting point for the new dance theatre work by Wim Vandekeybus and his company Ultima Vez. “Menske” is the Flemish diminuitive for “mens”, meaning “person” or “individual”. The person in question seems small and endangered, and the snatches of dialogue written by the ten dancers themselves show great sympathy for all the distraught and damaged beings driven into a personal crisis by the change of society. Vandekeybus has created a choreography of astonishing intensity, carried by poetic sensitivity and expressive energy, whose impressive emotional power is even amplified by the soundtrack of Belgian pop musician Daan.
