"Gold"

The contradictory images and messages in the videos of R&B icons such as Missy Elliot or Kelis lie somewhere between pornography and female power and are put under the microscope in the first work, “Gold”, by the Zurich choreographer Alexandra Bachzetsis who originally comes from Greece. She skilfully shows the verbal and visual marketing strategies of the HipHop culture and uses their “vernacular” for her own purposes: a powerful confrontation with pop culture games centred around visual pleasure and the transformation of fantasies into commodities.
Bachzetsis was involved in projects by Sasha Waltz, Christine De Smedt and Koen Augustijnen and works as a dancer and choreographer at the interface between performance and visual art.
