"Judy was angry"
Judy Garland tells the story of her life. In her anger the actress, the object of desire, talks herself hoarse – with a broken voice, for hours on end.
"Judy was angry" is the second piece created by outstanding dancer Antony Rizzi, for the last several years the attraction of William Forsythe’s Ballett Frankfurt. Rizzi transfers Judy Garland’s voice and anger to the stage, while exposing, with relish, the arbitrary nature of more recent theatre fashion. Styles are mixed and chairs are stacked: In the course of the play the auditorium is completely rebuilt. Els Dekeukelier, of Jan Fabre fame, takes the diva’s part and becomes her echo and living counterpart.
